Go Back Matilda

Based on Roald Dahl’s beloved novel, Matilda the Musical is a dazzling and heartwarming tale of a young girl who dares to stand up to injustice in her life. The story follows Matilda Wormwood, an exceptionally gifted and intelligent child born into a family that doesn’t understand her. Despite her remarkable talents, Matilda’s home life is filled with neglect and cruelty, particularly at the hands of her parents and her tyrannical headmistress, Miss Trunchbull.

But Matilda isn’t just a little girl – she’s a force of nature. With her incredible mind and a growing sense of justice, she befriends her kind school teacher, Miss Honey, and begins to use her unique abilities to make things right. Along the way, Matilda discovers the strength within herself to challenge the adults around her and change her fate, while also learning the power of friendship, courage, and standing up for what’s right.

With a score by Tim Minchin (composer and lyricist) and a book by Dennis Kelly, Matilda the Musical combines humor, heart, and a touch of magic. Minchin’s catchy and clever songs bring the vibrant world of Matilda to life, with numbers that range from playful to profoundly moving, all underscoring the themes of resilience, imagination, and the fight against tyranny.

As presented by the Lee High Theatre Department, this production offers an unforgettable theatrical experience, filled with stunning performances, vibrant choreography, and a dynamic ensemble cast. While the show is full of whimsy, it also explores powerful themes about standing up to injustice, the power of knowledge, and the importance of kindness.
